David Warner is an IPL legend! A three-time Orange Cap winner, the fastest to 5000 IPL runs and the best overseas batter in the history of the tournament. Add to that an IPL trophy as captain in 2016 and it is fair to say that the Australian opener is amongst the handful of players who have managed to carve a niche at the world’s biggest T20 league.
Born in Paddington in New South Wales, Warner made his international debut for Australia against South Africa in T20I at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground. The southpaw who was 22 then became the first Australian cricketer to play for the national team in 132 years without any experience of playing first-class cricket. Justifying his talent, Warner smashed 89 off just 43 deliveries in his debut innings for Australia and gradually established himself as an all-format cricketer with his consistent performances.
Labeled as a pocket-sized dynamo for his explosive batting, Warner earned his first IPL contract with Delhi in the IPL in 2009. The New South Welshman represented our franchise for five seasons which also saw him become the first cricketer in T20s to score back-to-back hundreds in the 2011 edition of the Champions League.
In 2015, David Warner scored 562 runs to top the run charts for the first time in IPL and the following year scored a mammoth 848 runs in the season - the second-most in the history of an IPL season. In 2016, the Australian won the maiden IPL title for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
A three-time World Cup champion and one of the top five all-time run-getters in the T20 format, David Warner’s experience will be invaluable for Delhi Capitals in their quest to win their elusive IPL trophy.
