Fondly known as Kappie, Marizanne Kapp is one of the finest all-rounders to have graced the game of cricket. She has joined the Delhi Capitals franchise with a lot of reputation attached to her name, adding to the overall experience of the unit.
She made her debut for South Africa in the 2009 ODI World Cup in Australia. With her performances with both bat and ball, she became a very reliable player for her team. In the 2013 ODI World Cup, she became the first South African player to score a World Cup century. The same year, she also picked up a hat trick, becoming the first South African to do so. In 2014, she was part of the squad that made it to the semis at the T20 World Cup, the first time South Africa had done it.
As the South African women’s team became more and more professional, Kapp played a crucial role in its development. She was a key member of the team that made it to the semi-finals of the 2017 ODI World Cup in England. She was also a crucial part of their semi-final run at the 2020 T20 World Cup and later at the 2022 ODI World Cup, all of that while contributing with the bat and the ball. As of 2023, she has more than 3500 runs and 200 wickets at the international level.
She made a name for herself in the Hundred as well, where she helped the Oval Invincibles to a double triumph in the 2021 and 2022 seasons. On both occasions, she was the player of the match in the final. She also won the Women’s Big Bash League with the Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers. She was the player of the match in the final, when the Scorchers won the title.
In 2023, she was part of the South African team that reached the finals of the T20 World Cup at home, becoming the first-ever senior team from the country to play a final of a World Cup.
