Annabelle Sutherland, aged 23, was born in Melbourne, Australia, to a former CEO of Cricket Australia, James Sutherland, and his wife Heidi Sutherland. Annabel plays as an all-rounder for the Australian national cricket team. She is an excellent cricketer, predominantly known for her hard-hitting batting abilities.
Sutherland made her international debut in February 2020 against England in the T20I tri-series, following which she made her ODI and Test debuts in October 2020 and September 2021, respectively, at the international level. Talking about her batting and bowling prowess, her highest batting score in the ODI format so far has been 109*, and 4/31 is her best bowling figure in the same format. In the other 2 formats too, she has performed exceptionally well, with her best batting and bowling performances being 137* and 3/69 in Test and 22* of just 11 balls and 3/28 in T20I. As far as WBBL is concerned, her best batting and bowling figures have been 72 and 4/20, respectively.
Annabel is a player who needs no introduction; rather, her performances do the talking. She bettered a 39-year-old record in Australian women’s cricket history previously set by Jill Kennare by scoring the fastest century in women’s test cricket, a 100 off just 148 deliveries. Her total score in the given innings was 137*, which also happens to be the highest score by a No. 8 batter. Furthermore, she was the youngest cricketer to have featured in the WBBL, debuting at the age of 15. In addition, she was part of the squad that participated in the 2020 and 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup, Australia’s 50-over World Cup in 2022, as well as Commonwealth games in 2022, only to win the winner’s medal in all three tournaments. She also happens to be the Melbourne Renegades’ all-time leading wicket-taker in the WBBL. These achievements act as proof of the fact that she is truly a rising star, and in a true sense, Annabel has it in her to become a leading name in the game of cricket.
