After winning four matches in a row – the first time in Delhi Capitals' history to win our first four games of an IPL season – the action now shifts to our home ground in the heart of the capital. A high-octane Sunday night clash awaits as we prepare to take on the Mumbai Indians at the iconic Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Delhi Capitals are coming off a hard-fought victory in their previous match, where KL Rahul starred with an unbeaten 93, guiding the team to a six-wicket win in a challenging run chase against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Rahul put up a sensational 111-run unbeaten partnership with Tristan Stubbs (38* off 23 balls) after the team found themselves in trouble at 58/4 in the ninth over, chasing 164.
On the bowling front, Vipraj Nigam (2/18) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/17) led the charge, restricting the RCB batters with precision. The spin duo combined to pick up four wickets, conceding runs at an impressive economy rate of under 4.50.
So far in the tournament, match-winners have come from all corners for Axar Patel’s army. In the opening match, Ashutosh Sharma played a blinder against LSG and Mitchell Starc delivered a five-fer against SRH. KL Rahul scored his first fifty in DC colours against CSK and followed it up with another heroic performance against RCB.
Whenever the chips have been down, our players have found a way to make a difference, which has been the biggest positive for us. But to remember the words of our mentor, Kevin Pietersen, “IPL tournament is a marathon, not a sprint."
Mumbai Indians, meanwhile, aren’t off to the best of start in this season. They’re currently ninth on the table with only one win in five matches.
Looking back to last season, we won our home fixture against the Mumbai Indians. In Delhi, it was Jake Fraser-McGurk who stole the show with a blistering 27-ball 84, leading us to our highest-ever IPL total of 257/4.
As we return to our home ground, our players will undoubtedly be eager to get going and deliver another thrilling performance at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
