When these two teams met in the opening week of TATA IPL 2025, they lit up the stadium with a cracker of a contest. Once again, Delhi Capitals prepare for a battle against Lucknow Super Giants, this time away from home in Lucknow on Tuesday.

Ashutosh Sharma’s heroics spring to mind instantly when we think of the previous showdown between them in Vizag. The match, where we were chasing 210 runs to win, seemed done and dusted when we were reduced to 113/6. However, an outstanding partnership between Vipraj Nigam and Ashutosh brought us close.

After Vipraj’s dismissal in the 17th over, Ashutosh was handed an uphill task: to chase down 39 runs in three overs, pretty much all by himself. Heeding our mentor Kevin Pietersen’s words, “Great players finish games off”, Ashu produced a miraculous finish, completing the chase with three balls left.

Not to forget, our bowlers too had quite an outing that night. At 133/1 in 11.3 overs, LSG threatened to put up a humongous total, but we managed to restrict them to 209/8. Kuldeep Yadav returned with outstanding figures of 2/20, while Starc picked up three wickets.

That game set the tone for our tournament and epitomised our “Never Say Die” attitude. With five wins in seven matches, we have remained in the top two for a good period of the tournament, and the side continues to brim with confidence.

Despite a defeat in the previous game against Gujarat Titans, some great batting performances were a positive for us to take forward, alongside another good bowling show from our leggies, Vipraj and Kuldeep.

The Lucknow Super Giants, too, have had a great outing this edition, winning five of their eight matches. Nicholas Pooran’s heroics with the bat and some impressive bowling performances from their young Indian core have made them a side to watch out for.

The Ekana has not been the easiest of grounds to score big, but the variety in our lineup always promises a competitive score regardless of which conditions we play in. We registered an impressive win the last time we played here, chasing a target of 168 with nearly two overs remaining.
