Delhi Capitals will be back in action in less than 48 hours after our match against RCB. We gear up to host the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday, 29 April.
Talking of our last outing against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, it wasn’t the most memorable one. We dominated the game in spells, but couldn’t get over the line. However, there were encouraging signs that we are moving in the right direction.
Tristan Stubbs' (34 off 18 balls) explosive late flourish showcased why he is one of the best talents in world cricket right now, while skipper Axar Patel’s disciplined and impactful spell was pivotal for us with the ball. He returned with figures of 2/19, which included three overs of the Powerplay.
With six wins in nine matches, we still have more positives to look at. Throughout this season, one of our biggest strengths has been the emergence of different heroes in every match.
Ashutosh Sharma’s big knock against LSG was a standout moment while KL Rahul’s composed innings anchored our batting multiple times, especially in run chases.
With the ball, Mitchell Starc has been consistently among the wickets, delivering several match-winning performances. Kuldeep Yadav, meanwhile, has already claimed 12 wickets this season and is gearing up to face a side against whom he enjoys an excellent record. In four matches against Kolkata Knight Riders, Kuldeep has taken 10 wickets, including best figures of 4 for 14.
Kuldeep is also inching towards a major milestone in the TATA IPL. He is only one short of 100 wickets in the tournament. KL Rahul, too, is closing in on 8,000 runs in T20 cricket, needing 50 more to get there.
Kolkata Knight Riders, the defending champions, have not been in the best of form this edition, picking up three wins in nine matches. Both teams have all the motivation needed to go all-out, and we’re in for another pulsating contest at the Kotla.
