The Delhi Capitals go up against Lucknow Super Giants in our final home game of IPL 2024 on Tuesday, May 14, at 7:30 PM IST. It will also be a must-win encounter to continue our journey towards the playoffs.
We suffered our seventh defeat of the campaign on Sunday, a 47-run defeat against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, denting our march towards the next tournament stage.
Rishabh Pant and Co. are currently sixth on the points table this season with 12 points and a net run rate of -0.482.
Our previous match against LSG ended in a six-wicket victory at the BRSABV Ekana Stadium in April 2024. Jake Fraser-McGurk scored a fifty on his IPL debut while Kuldeep Yadav was the Player of the Match for his three-for.
Skipper Rishabh Pant resumed his duties for our final home game of the season.
Players to watch out for
Jake Fraser-McGurk:
The flamboyant Australian opener Jake Fraser-McGurk is our second-highest run-scorer in IPL 2024. His relentless six-hitting ability in the powerplay has put most opposition bowlers on the backfoot this season.
JFM’s record at the Arun Jaitley Stadium highlights his impact on us atop the innings. He has notched 222 runs in just four games, including three fifties, at a strike-rate of 281.01 and has hit 25 fours and 18 sixes at Qila Kotla.
He made his IPL debut against LSG earlier this year, scoring 55 off 35 balls in a winning cause.
Axar Patel:
Axar Patel made a valiant 57, playing a captain’s knock against RCB last time out. Earlier this season at Qila Kotla, the Nadiad-born all-rounder slammed 66 runs, setting up a match-winning total against Gujarat Titans.
Bapu has been impressive with the ball too. He has picked up 10 wickets and bowled at an economy rate of 7.37.
His all-round efforts will be key in helping us get over the line in our final home game.
David Warner:
The legendary Australian southpaw David Warner returned from injury in the last match. He averages 21.00 and strikes at 134.40 with the bat this season.
Warner had notched a crucial 52 against CSK at Vishakhapatnam in March. Despite this not being his most potent campaign, Warner remains one of the most explosive batters in the T20 format.
Rasikh Dar:
Having emerged as an impactful bowler in the middle and death overs, Rasikh Dar has become a go-to choice for the Delhi Capitals this season.
Rasikh has picked up nine wickets in the last five matches, including two three-fors against GT and MI, respectively.
Mukesh Kumar:
Mukesh Kumar is our joint-leading wicket-taker this season with 16 wickets. The Bengal-based speedster has shouldered the responsibility of bowling the death overs and has helped us close out multiple games.
Last time out against LSG, Mukesh scalped the wicket of Krunal Pandya. He remains in the race for the Purple Cap, alongside Khaleel Ahmed, in IPL 2024.
Key Matchups
Rishabh Pant vs Krunal Pandya
Rishabh Pant and Krunal Pandya have shared a competitive duel in the IPL. Rishabh has scored 70 runs in 38 balls against Krunal while striking at 184.21. The LSG all-rounder, meanwhile, has dismissed Rishabh thrice.
Considering the dimensions of the ground and the pitch at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Rishabh's triumphing in this contest will go a long way toward winning the match.
Kuldeep Yadav vs Quinton de Kock
Kuldeep Yadav has taken eight wickets in four matches at Qila Kotla this season. The in-form spinner will be crucial in negating the threat of Quinton de Kock on Tuesday.
Kuldeep has dismissed the Protea wicketkeeper-batter twice in just 14 balls. In April this season, he had also clean-bowled Nicholas Pooran, another left-handed batter. Once again, Kuldeep will be key in disrupting the LSG top and middle order.
Axar Patel vs KL Rahul
Axar Patel’s record against KL Rahul in the Indian Premier League is enviable. In the six innings that the two have dueled, our all-rounder has emerged atop.
Axar has scalped KL’s wicket twice while conceding only 30 runs off 39 balls, a scoring strike rate of a mere 76.92.
Bapu has also bowled in the powerplay this season, giving him a greater chance of excelling in this contest once again.
